Tennis: Federer looking for form before Wimbledon

For the record champion in Halle, the Swiss won the tournament in Westphalia ten times, the early retirement meant a great disappointment and a severe setback on the way to Wimbledon, where he definitely wants to play for the title again this year.

In the end, Federer had subordinated everything to this. At the French Open, he had therefore withdrawn from Italy before the round of 16 against Matteo Berrettini in order not to put too much strain on his knee, which had been operated on twice. Instead, he made an early trip to Halle, where a street is even named after him. But now Federer is only going to London with the match practice of two games, where his favorite tournament begins on June 28th.

Tennis: Early out for Federer in Halle

In Halle, Roger Federer lost the round of 16 against Canada’s Auger-Aliassime in three sets.

Federer thoughtful and tired

Federer started well against Auger-Aliassime, who was 19 years younger than him, and took the first set. But then he lost his rhythm. In addition, the Canadian served better and better. In the third movement, Federer quickly gave up his service and then looked thoughtful and tired. Auger-Aliassime used his first match point after 1:44 hours.

Roger Federer’s performance in Halle did not meet his own expectations

Federer has never lost in his career to a player whose age difference was greater than that of the 20-year-old Canadian, who has his birthday on the same day as Federer’s birthday. “I always thought that he stopped before I really got on the tour,” said Auger-Aliassime after his success.

Kohlschreiber feels good

The German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber, on the other hand, is in the quarter-finals in Halle. The 37-year-old, who had taken the Austrian Jurij Rodionov out of the competition in the previous round, beat the Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6: 4 7: 6 (7/4). Kohlschreiber used his first match ball after 1:44 hours. The long-injured Kohlschreiber will now face the fourth-placed Russian Andrei Rublev in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Marach in double out, Oswald continues

In the double competition in Halle, Oliver Marach was eliminated in the second round of the double competition. The 40-year-old Styrian and his Pakistani partner Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi lost 3: 6 3: 6 against Jonathan Erlich / Lloyd Harris (ISR / RSA). In the first round, the number eight seeded duo had a bye.
