Swimming: The cross-country circuit opens the Playas del Oeste circuit, which will be the longest

This year there will also be four crossings included in this circuit. The first will be San Pedro on June 29, 2,650 meters between Poniente beach and Escalerona de San Lorenzo. After it, the Gijón Beaches Crossing will take place on July 17, departing from Peñarrubia beach and arriving at San Lorenzo’s 12th staircase.

The third will be the aforementioned West Playas Crossing, which, according to Tuero, the Municipal Sports Board decided to add to the circuit “because the usual participants in this type of crossings demanded a longer distance than those that we organized until now”. This journey will start at Poniente beach, arrive at L’Arbeyal and return to Poniente, which makes a route of 5,500 meters, the longest of the entire circuit.

The fourth and last test will be the traditional Christmas Cruise, on December 25 in the waters of the marina and with a distance of 220 meters. As happened in the last edition, this year each crossing will have a maximum capacity, 200 participants from San Pedro, 175 from Playas de Gijón and 150 from Playas del Oeste, and the anti-virus protocol already imposed last year will remain in force. , for example, it means that there will be no trophy ceremony at the end of each test or that it is impossible to use changing rooms.

In order to be eligible for the trophy to the winner of the circuit, it is necessary to participate in the three scoring events. It does not do the Christmas season as it is a very short route and it does not take place in the open sea. The 2020 winners were Aitor Fernández and María Fernández.
