Summit Meeting at Wembley Stadium

soccer/euro/story">

Considered among the potential candidates to win this edition of the Euro, the English club begins the competition with an interesting duel against Croatia on Sunday.

From the outset, it should be remembered that the Croats had defeated England in the semi-final at the 2018 World Cup. A goal made the difference during extra time, in the 109th minute, in a gain of 2 to 1 from Croatia. The latter then lost against France in the grand final.

For this revenge, faced with a rather aging Croatian formation, England relies on an advantage that should not be neglected: the Wembley stadium. The English players, including the popular Harry Kane, could indeed benefit from the support of the spectators for a good part of the Euro, in particular on Sunday. London hosts a total of eight fixtures in this competition, including parts of England scheduled in the group stage.

Speaking of Kane, the Tottenham forward has been in 35 games with his club this season, totaling 23 goals and 14 assists.

The duel between the English and the Croats will undoubtedly set the tone in Group D, completed by the Czech Republic and Scotland, who will face each other instead on Monday.

For the day of Sunday, it is the intriguing group C which will also attract the attention. Ukraine will want to confirm their superiority over other nations in this group, but the Netherlands, even if they find themselves on the downward slope, will sell their skin dearly. These two countries clash in a duel that promises. In the other part of the day, Austria and North Macedonia will take the opportunity to make themselves known more.

Helping Italians

By drawing a 1-1 draw on Saturday at the Euro, Switzerland and Wales gave Italy a boost in Group A.

Winner of Turkey the day before to start the competition, the Italians are therefore alone at the top of this group with three precious points.

Italy’s next match, Wednesday June 16, is scheduled against the Swiss, who will have to approach this meeting with a certain sense of urgency.

TODAY

England v. Croatia

In front of their supporters, the English will undoubtedly want to avenge their defeat suffered against the Croats in the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018. To watch: striker Harry Kane.

12h.

Austria v. North Macedonia

This game is incredibly important for either of these two teams to qualify in Group C. Casually, North Macedonia is solid in the midfield with Arijan Ademi, Enis Bardhi and Eljif Elmas.

3 p.m.

Netherlands v. Ukraine

The Dutch are much weaker than before, but Ukraine would make a big mistake to take them lightly. Another match that seems decisive in Group C.

THE HERO OF THE DAY

THE MEDICAL TEAM

Under the circumstances, it is difficult not to attribute the title of “hero of the day” to the healers who took care of the Danish player Christian Eriksen. The 29-year-old, who plays as an attacking midfielder at Inter Milan, collapsed on the pitch just before half-time during the Group B meeting between Denmark and Finland. A cardiac massage, in the field, had to be done on the player in particular.
