Stefanos Tsitsipas qualified for the Roland-Garros final after his victory over Alexander Zverev

Ah this Next Gen … While the world of tennis awaited the 58th clash between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the kids scheduled to “raise the curtain” decided to take advantage of the time offered to them on the Philippe-Chatrier court. And you know what ? No one will complain about it.

The confrontations between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev are destined to become tennis classics of tomorrow, the one after the Big Three. And if they are all of the caliber of this semi-final, we sign immediately. As it’s Roland-Garros and you always have to find something to complain about, we just regret that the two men did not necessarily play well at the same time.

But when they did, the happy spectators were able to enjoy some very high level sequences. Especially in the second set when Stefanos Tsitsipas, led 0-3, lined up six great games to complete the second set (6-3). There was especially this game which saw the Greek pass in front (4-3) and made the public stand up as one man. Huge rallies on a metronome rhythm and Tsitsipas who came to finish at the net, it was a tennis dream.

Wearing Hermes sandals, Tsitsipas had flown over the first two sets against a Zverev guilty of too much passivity. The German has all the shots to play devastating tennis, but he still too often enjoys himself far behind his line, content to send back hard (does that remind you of someone?). Faced with an enterprising Zverev, that was far from enough.

The German with bare arms then did violence to himself. One more step into the field, drier strikes and an even smacker serve (only two points lost behind his first ball in the fourth set) and here are the two men with two sets everywhere.

First defeat in five sets for Zverev at Roland Garros

It remained to be seen whether Zverev would follow up on Parisian clay with an eighth long-term victory (see below) or whether Tsitsipas, who had become Sisyphus during two sets, would regain his initial lightness. The tennis gods chose the second option. Marked, Zverev no longer had that lead ball that had so repelled Tsitsipas two sets during.

Alexander Zverev remained on seven wins in as many matches played in five sets at Roland Garros. Stefanos Tsitsipas ended this streak this Friday.

The Greek, for his part, was able to re-mobilize to win, on an ace, after 3:37, and reach his first Grand Slam final. What burst into tears. “I come from a very small place. My dream was to play in a big stadium like here, at Roland-Garros ”, he managed to testify on the court. So there will be a Greek in the Roland Garros final for the first time in the tournament’s history. And regardless of his opponent, he will face a tennis legend.
