Sport en direct – Eight new Swiss athletes selected for the Olympic Games

The former world number 1 Andy Murray can dream of a third Olympic gold medal in tennis after being selected Thursday in the British squad which will travel to the Tokyo Games.

34-year-old Murray, three-time Grand Slam winner, is pursued by injuries since defeating Juan Martin del Potro in a memorable final at the Rio Games in 2016. He had already won in 2012 in London, facing Roger Federer, during a disputed final on grass.

Murray, currently classified 119th player in the world, will also argue double gentlemen in Tokyo, associated with Joe Salisbury, while his brother Jamie, a great doubles specialist, was not selected.

Long injured in the groin, Murray made his return to competition last week at the Queen’s tournament, to prepare for Wimbledon, which he won twice and where he logically received an invitation. He has lost in two sets, in the second round, against the future Italian winner Matteo Berrettini, seeded number 1 and 9th player in the world.
