Sinner / Lopez have to admit defeat to the top duo – tennis

Jannik Sinner was eliminated on Wednesday afternoon in the double round of 16 of the ATP 500 tournament in Queens. The 19-year-old Sesto and the Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez had to admit defeat to the top seeded Croat Nikola Mektic / Mate Pavic 6: 7 (3), 5: 7.

In the starting round on Tuesday, Sinner / Lopez eliminated the British Daniel Evans / Jonny O’Mara with 7: 6 (8), 6: 2. One day later they failed after a very exciting match against the tournament favorites Mektic / Pavic, who took 4th and 1st place in the double ranking.

Up to 6: 6, both duos managed their serves without any problems. In the tie-break, Sinner / Lopez led 3-1, but then the Croatians scored six points in a row to win the 7-3 set. The second part of the game was also very even. Again, both Sinner / Lopez and Mektic / Pavic served very confidently, but in the 12th game, after 1:27 hours of play, the favorites managed the decisive break to make the final score 7: 5.

In the singles, Sinner in Queens surprisingly failed in his opening game on Monday in two tiebreaks against the British Jack Draper. For the South Tyrolean, the lawn tournament in London was the only dress rehearsal for the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, Wimbledon, which begins the week after next. There is the world number 23. from Sexten to serve in the main field. The pairings will be drawn on Friday, June 25th.
