Mike Schloesser became the top scorer of the composite men’s individual semifinal on day three of the Archery World Cup in Paris, the third in this year’s series.

The 27-year-old Dutchman, world champion in 2013, won gold in the last World Cup in Lausanne and silver in the inaugural edition in Guatemala City.

Toja Ellison of Slovenia was the highest-scoring qualifier in the women’s quarterfinals, beating Page Pearce of the USA 149-144.

Her opponent on Saturday will be Colombian Alejandra Usquiano, who advanced with a 147-144 victory over Sarah Prieels of Belgium.

Colombia will also be represented in the second semifinal by Sara López, a two-time world champion of gold medals and the first woman to score a maximum of 150 points, who went 145 to 144 over Sanne De Laat of the Netherlands.

Lopez will now face Italy’s Andrea Beccara, who beat India’s Jyothi Vennam 147-143.

Saturday represents the last chance for compound archers to qualify for the final of the 2021 Archery World Cup in Yankton.

With Nora Valdez already qualified after winning gold in the season opener in Guatemala City, only one other Colombian women’s spot will be available in Yankton.

“If I can go, it’s amazing. If not, it’s unbelievable because we’ll have Colombians there anyway, ”said Lopez, a record-setting five World Cup winner but who has struggled with an unusual panic attack all season.

“The goal for me was to control myself, not to let the panic return.

And I think I did.

“So for me it is already a gold medal because I was able to control it.”
