The Russian qualifier Ludmilla Samsonova surprisingly won the lawn tennis tournament in Berlin. In the final on Sunday, the 22-year-old prevailed 1: 6, 6: 1, 6: 3 against Belinda Bencic from Switzerland. With her first tournament victory, Samsonova climbed from 106th to 63rd in the world rankings on Monday.

With her success she succeeds her compatriot Dinara Safina, who was the last player to win in Berlin in 2008, back then on clay.
