There will be “different activities”, announced the Real Federación Española de Tenis (RFET). They want to organize “tournaments for women, men, seniors, children and so on”. Whether mixed, wheelchair tennis or beach tennis – from now on, activities are planned in all possible areas every June 3, which are intended to convey the fun of tennis to people.

Tennis President enthusiastic about the idea

“The idea came up when the match between Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet was broadcast in Roland-Garros on Eurosport. That was on June 3rd, Nadal’s birthday,” said the RFET.

Álvaro Benito and ex-pro Àlex Corretja commented on the match and raised the proposal for a national tennis day, which came via Twitter – from Jorge Mir Mayor, director of the tennis schools at Real Club Jolaseta.

The President of the RFET also noticed all of this. “I listened to the commentary on Nadal’s game on Eurosport and I immediately knew it was a great idea,” said Miguel Díaz Román.

No sooner said than done – and so from now on June 3rd has a whole new meaning for Spanish sport.
