Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) is to apologize to Senator Lukáš Wagenknecht (for Pirates) for his statements that he is a psychopath, informant and deprived the Czech Republic of 800 million crowns, the Prague-West District Court ruled on Friday. Wagenknecht, who was the deputy when Babis headed the Ministry of Finance, said this twitter. The Prime Minister stands by his statements and plans to appeal, he told ČTK in a text message.

The court granted the action for the protection of personality, Babiš is obliged to send a written apology within three days after the judgment takes legal effect, said Wagenknecht. His assistant Karolína Žďárská told ČTK that a written copy of the judgment should be available within two weeks. “We do not have a written copy yet, so we do not know the arguments of the court, but I stand by my statements, I will appeal,” Babiš responded.

Wagenknecht was the first Deputy Minister of Finance from February 2014 to June 2015, when Babiš dismissed him according to Wagenknecht’s later statement without giving a reason. Wagenknecht had previously gotten into a dispute with the then Minister for Regional Development, Karel Šlechtová (for YES), when his audit team found errors in a tender for a monitoring system for European funds.
