“Our goal was valid”

Mali coach Mohamed Magassouba attended a press conference following his family’s defeat against Algeria (1-0). If he recognizes the talent of the Greens, Magassouba believes that his people deserve better.

The fight between Algeria and Mali finally ended with a victory for the Fennecs on a goal by Riyad Mahrez in the 57th minute. However, it was Mali that seemed to dominate the majority of the meeting, narrowly failing to open the scoring in the first period in particular.

The Eagles coach, Mohamed Magassouba, said at a press conference that his people had largely been up to the event: “ It was a very interesting game. We played against the reigning African champion. Coming to play Algeria in its own facilities, we knew it was not going to be easy. We could have scored if we were a little more mature. »

On the other hand, Magassouba believes that the goal scored by his team following a corner and an average exit from Raïs M’Bolhi should have been awarded, the foul whistled against the Algerian goalkeeper being actually due to a shock with Djamel Benlamri.

He blamed his team’s defeat in particular on his team’s lack of experience: “ We have put a device in place to animate the game well but our errors of concentration and youth have prevented us from realizing our opportunities“Continuing on the fact that his team was”tactically well in place but the high level is played on small details. This is what my team needs to improve on.»

Finally, the Mali coach paid tribute to Algeria: “ Algeria is a team with great individuals and a good coach. I congratulate Djamel Belmadi for this victory “While paying homage to his family:” When you have the ability to doubt the best African team on their land, you should no longer doubt their abilities. We are a humble young team that still has to work. Now, Mali’s goal is clear: the 2022 World Cup.
