Red DevilsThe Red Devils started their training today with 28 players at the training center in Tubize, their penultimate before a trip to Russia where the first group match of the European Championship is scheduled for Saturday. Kevin De Bruyne and reserve Zinho Vanheusden were missing.
De Bruyne only joined the selection on Monday after a week of extra vacation after the Champions League final. In that final he suffered fractures to the nose and left eye socket. Roberto Martinez previously indicated that he does not really count on De Bruyne for Saturday’s game against Russia.
Axel Witsel and Eden Hazard did start training again, which, as usual, was only open to the press for fifteen minutes. Witsel is not yet ready to play after a tear in the Achilles tendon. Hazard has struggled with the thigh in recent weeks, but was able to make his first minutes in a year and a half with the national team against Croatia on Sunday as a substitute.
Leandro Trossard and Dedryck Boyata, who had to drop out with minor injuries for the game against Croatia, and reserves Thomas Kaminski, Brandon Mechele and Albert Sambi Lokonga also trained.
Thierry Henry was also on the field with the Devils for the first time as T3. He went through the classic welcome ritual where he had to move between two rows of players as quickly as possible to avoid being hit.
