ENGLEWOOD, Colo. – Peyton Manning will be added to the Denver Broncos’ ring of honor to mark his four years with the team, which were capped with a 50th Super Bowl victory.

Manning will be honored in a game against the Washington Soccer Team on Halloween, less than three months after being inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame.

“From Floyd Little to Karl Mecklenburg to Steve Atwater and many others, I’ve always looked at the names written around the stadium and I’ve always admired those great players the Broncos have had over the years,” Manning said by way of press release. I am very honored to join this ring. “

The six-member selection committee voted unanimously to make Manning the 35th member of the ring of honor. Former head coach Mike Shanahan, who received the honor in 2020, will also be honored this year after his celebration was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manning joins Champ Bailey (2019) as the only members to have been selected for the Broncos’ Ring of Honor and inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in the same season.

Manning joined the Broncos as a free agent on March 20, 2012, after being released by the Indianapolis Colts, with whom he played 14 seasons and won the 41st Super Bowl.

At the time, his future in football was uncertain because he had just undergone several neck surgeries that caused numbness in his right hand. He had missed the entire 2011 season.

Manning replaced Tim Tebow at quarterback and he guided the Broncos to two Super Bowl appearances, including one win, in four seasons.

By the way, Manning won the NFL Comeback of the Year trophy, was named the league’s Most Valuable Player for a fifth time, which is a record, and he has also been selected twice for the League. all-star and three-time Pro Bowl team.

In his second season with the Broncos, Manning set an NFL record for touchdowns (55) and aerial yards (5477) in a single season. The Denver team lost in the Super Bowl to the Seattle Seahawks. Two years later, she earned a third Super Bowl title by defeating the Carolina Panthers.

A month after the Broncos’ 24-10 win over the Panthers, Manning retired as the champion, as did boss John Elway.

Manning is the fifth quarterback added to the ring of honor, after Elway, Craig Morton, Charley Johnson and Frank Tripucka.

Manning was also added to the Colts’ ring of honor in 2017, the same year he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
