The story of the first half (LIVE TABLE)

The teams miss the first five combined shots, until the ball finds Kevin Durant’s hands for the first two points of the game. It’s another great KD basket to close a partial 9-2 in favor of the Nets, able to concede a single basket to Jrue Holiday and then close the defense with a double throw (6 errors out of 7 shots), scoring two difficult baskets with Irving and Griffin. The Bucks find a rare dunk from Antetokounmpo followed by an even rarer triple from the dribble, with the 7-0 run closed by PJ Tucker’s overturned pad to find the tie after 6 minutes. The entry of the reserves changes the tactical context of the game, but they are always the Nets to go to the second timeout ahead on 16-14 despite Pat Connaughton’s triple. The Bucks suddenly light up and score three triples in a row, finding the advantage on 23-21 after Antetokounmpo’s exit from the field. Shamet responds with three points which is followed by a recovery and Irving’s hand, while Jeff Green – returning after six games of absence – immediately makes an important play taking a breakthrough on Giannis (second offensive foul of the fourth immediately after returning). Irving with a spell sends Thanasis Antetokounmpo to the ground, but misses the triple: at the first long rest the score is 26-23 for the guests.

The Nets with Durant on the bench begin the second quarter in a great way, immediately making an 8-0 run closed by a triple from Mike James that brings them for the first time in double-digit advantage (34-23). The Bucks’ response comes in the form of a four-point game signed by Middleton, then finding two 3-pointers from Tucker from the left corner for -1 which reopens the game completely. It is a dunk in the sprint by Antetokounmpo – deployed by 5 without long role – to restore the advantage to the Bucks in an amen, forcing coach Nash to stop the game at 37-36 after a 14-2 run. A basket by Irving does not stop the storm of the Bucks, who, leaning on Giannis, extend the partial to 23-4 – before Irving ends up on the ground with a bad ankle sprain and falls back after a basket. The number 11 must return to the locker room obviously in pain (albeit on his legs), with Griffin immediately finding two points from the garbage of the match. Tucker has a hot hand from the corner and signs his third triple of the fourth, followed by that of Lopez from the same position for +5. Mike James misses one of the most incredible baskets of these playoffs by raising the lob for Griffin when he was alone an inch from the basket, while Green in defense takes another breakthrough from Antetokounmpo – then reversed after the Milwaukee bench challenge. At half-time the score was 53-48 for the hosts, leading against the Nets without Irving who was declared “out” for the rest of the game.

The story of the second half

The match stops again after 36 seconds because Tucker suffers a bad shoulder contact, forcing coach Budenholzer to stop the match with a timeout. When operations resume, however, the veteran is regularly on the field gritting his teeth like a true gladiator, the body and soul of the Bucks in the two Milwaukee races. The Bucks reach the maximum lead on +10 (assist with Holiday’s tunnel for Antetokounmpo’s dunk) against a coach Nash’s experimental quintet, which restarts with James and Green on the field in place of Irving and Brown compared to the first half. Antetokounmpo scores two more baskets after the timeout and pushes the lead up to +14, while an involuntary elbow from Harris cost Connaughton a cut at the browbone and some stitches. Mentally the Nets are totally out of the game with Durant who is even reassembled and stopped by Middleton and Antetokounmpo completely unstoppable for the opposing defense. The match is now totally on the rails of Milwaukee with Bryn Forbes signing the triple of +17, while Durant is completely hunted by the Bucks defense totally focused on him. KD’s talent allows the Nets to return to -9 at the end of the third quarter, but Middleton scores from three a very difficult and tripled basket: at the last rest along Milwaukee he is ahead 81-69.

Durant is on the field early in the fourth period to try a desperate comeback (only a short rest of less than two minutes in the first half for him), but Connaughton scores three to keep his team ahead of double digits.
