National basketball team begins training with a view to Olympic playoffs

SANTO DOMINGO.- The national basketball team began training on Monday with a view to preparing for and participating in the Olympic Repechage to be played in the city of Belgrade, in Serbia, between June 29 and July 4.

The leader Melvyn López commanded the opening of the practices of the national team that will take place throughout the week at the Palacio de los Deportes Professor Virgilio Travieso Soto.

López was accompanied by Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), who gave the words of welcome to the players who attended the first day of activities.

In addition to the members of the coaching staff, José -Maíta- Mercedes, David Díaz, Ruddy Martínez and Jonathan Matos, and the physical training staff and physiotherapists.

Among the players present on the first day of training were Rigoberto Mendoza, Luis Santos, Eddy Polanco, Jhery Matos, Adonys Henríquez, Bryan Martínez, Mike Torres, Anderson Mirambeaux, Anyeuri Castillo, Xavier Carreras and Andrés Féliz.

The first game of the Dominican Republic will be on Tuesday June 29 against Serbia, and on Thursday July 1 against the Philippines.

In this event, a place will be awarded to the Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan, as well as the repechage venues that will play in Canada, Croatia and Lithuania, which will be added to the seven established after the 2019 World Cup in China and the host of Japan, for a total of 12 teams.
