Nadal and a 36-set streak that came to an end

No one has beaten Rafael Nadal a set at Roland Garros since Dominic Thiem did it in the 2019 final. No one until Diego Schwartzman said enough in the second round of the quarterfinal match of the 2021 edition.

It even fell to two of the 38 he had in 2018 and Bjorn Borg holds the record in Paris with 41 sets in a row.

They were 36 in a row with two titles included in that period. He started with two in the last match of the tournament in 2019 and in the 2020 edition he defeated Egor Gerasimov, Mackenzie McDonald, Stefano Travaglia, Sebastian Korda, Jannik Sinner, Diego Schwartzman and Novak Djokovic in straight sets. In 2021 he swept Alexei Popyrin, Richard Gasquet, Cameron Norrie and, again, Sinner before running into the Argentine again.

To find someone to take two from him, you have to go until the loss to Novak Djokovic in the 2015 quarterfinals.

The Peque is also the third player to win at least one set against the Spanish in two different editions of the Parisian Grand Slam. The others: Roger Federer (4 times) and Novak Djokovic (3).
