Mirna Ortiz and Juan Ignacio Maegli will be the flag bearers of Guatemala for Tokyo

The two Guatemalan athletes will be in charge of carrying the Guatemalan flag at the opening of the Olympic Games in Japanese lands

GUATEMALA – The sailor Juan Ignacio Maegli and the marcher Mirna Ortiz, were designated by the Guatemalan Olympic Committee (COG) as the standard bearers of the Chapina delegation for the Tokyo Olympics that will take place from July 23 to August 8.

For her part, the sailor Isabella Maegli and the swimmer Luis Carlos Martinez They will be the bodyguards, according to the swearing in on Wednesday by the COG during the ceremony held at the Palacio de los Deportes in zone 5 of the capital.

A total of 21 athletes were sworn in distributed in nine sports disciplines: athletics, badminton, shooting, swimming, sailing, rowing, modern pentathlon, judo and cycling. Some of the athletes were connected virtually due to preparation camps abroad.

The swearing-in of the delegation made up of coaches, technicians, heads of mission and other designated persons was in charge of Gerardo Aguirre, president of the COG.

  • Sailing: Juan Ignacio Maegli and Isabella Maegli

  • Swimming: Luis Carlos Martínez

  • Pentathlon: Charles Fernández

  • Shooting with hunting weapons: Adriana Ruano, Waleska Soto and Juan Ramón Schaeffer

  • Remo: Yulissa López and Jenniffer Zuñiga

  • Cycling: Manuel Rodas

  • Badminton: Kevin Cordón

  • Judo: José Ramos
