Magog prepares his “play ball”

SPORTS. The Magog Baseball Association was already anticipating the start of the season around mid-June. The deconfinement and the coming transition of the Eastern Townships to the yellow zone therefore greatly delight the management of this organization.

President Marc-André Lavoie remains very optimistic a few days before the traditional “play ball”. This enthusiasm can be explained by the reduction in health measures and the increase in enrollments.

Practices have already started since the beginning of May. The signal for the regular season will be given around June 14, which represents a start slightly later than in recent years. But earlier than last year when COVID-19 had postponed the start of the calendar to July 4.

We will play with nine players without a mask, but they will have to respect distancing instructions in the players’ shelter. Spectators should also be careful.

Marc-André Lavoie observes with joy the growing popularity of baseball, where Magog enjoys a curve similar to the province. The Association has received some 20 additional names compared to last year. We will start the year with more than 160 young people, which is much more than the 40 in 2014.

“I believe that the 160 young people have been equivalent to a record of registrations since 2014, and perhaps even since the start of the Montreal Expos in 2004, appreciates Mr. Lavoie. We are seeing very good progress, even if we do not reach the peaks of good years with 250 young people. ”

President Côté applauds the presence of two women’s teams in the peewee and bantam categories. It highlights a first for 20 years, ie the presence of at least one team per category in the interregional circuit.

An atom A tournament will be held from July 8 to 11. A dozen teams will be present. Two will come from Magog and Estrie, while the ten others will represent cities outside the region.
