LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers changes his jersey number again

LeBron James returns to his old shirt number from his time with the Miami Heat after the disappointing 2020/21 season. The Los Angeles Lakers confirmed this on Wednesday ESPN.

From the new season onwards, James will switch from No. 23 to No. 6 again. He already wore this in Miami and at international matches with Team USA. In Miami he could not wear the number 23 because the organization does not give out this jersey number in honor of Michael Jordan.

At the Lakers, James originally wanted to move in the summer of 2019 to release the 23 for his teammate Anthony Davis, who had also worn this number for the New Orleans Pelicans.

However, the manufacturer Nike put a stop to this in order to prevent millions of materials being wasted. The change can now take place, but Davis will remain at No. 3.

James stated in the past that he had chosen the 23 because of Jordan, the number 6 was in turn inspired by Bill Russell and Julius Erving. His jerseys in training wore this number after joining the Cavs as well as the Lakers. James is also number 6 in the upcoming film “Space Jam: A New Legacy”.
