LaMelo Ball named Rookie of the Year for the 2020-21 NBA season

We already have the best rookie of the course. As Adrian Wojnarowski advances from ESPN, LaMelo Ball has been named Rookie of the Year for the 2020-21 NBA season.

Despite his suffering an injury that seemed to threaten his candidacy by missing up to 21 games in more than a month, his fantastic comeback helping the Hornets enter the play-in tournament has managed to convince those who vote. Playing a total of 51 games, he has averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 28.8 minutes per night.

Beyond his impact on Charlotte – it has been enormous – the youngest of the Ball brothers has left far-reaching performances like the one that took place on January 9 against the Atlanta Hawks, when he became the youngest player to achieve a triple. -Double in the NBA with 22 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists.

In the fight for the decoration, Ball has prevailed over Anthony Edwards and Tyrese Haliburton, who were also finalists as announced by the NBA weeks ago. The point guard of the North Carolina franchise has imposed on Edwards despite the fact that the latter has played all 72 games of regular season. Curiously, Ball is the fourth player with the fewest games played to win the award in the history of the League. Paul Hoffman did it by playing 37 in the 1947-48 season; yes, his team played only 48 games. Many years later, Patrick Ewing and Vince Carter won the award by playing 50 games out of a total of 82.
