I haven’t got “strong support” at the G7 summit

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference on June 13th, when the G7 summit (G7 summit) closed, “we received strong support from the leaders of each country for hosting the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.” But is that really the case?

The G7 statement merely states, “We support Japan’s determination to hold the event in a safe and secure manner this summer as a testament to the unity of the world overcoming the new coronavirus.” What is supported is the “Japan’s determination” to hold the event “safely and securely”. US President Joe Biden just said, “I support taking all public health measures before proceeding.” Only French President Emmanuel Macron, whose Paris Olympics were decided three years later, gave “strong support”.

On the one hand, the G7 Summit decided to provide one billion vaccines to developing countries. The G7 recognizes that the pandemic is not over all over the world. It is impossible to hold the Olympics and Paralympics under this pandemic.

It has become a creepy development

Until about half a month ago, the focus was on whether to hold or cancel the Olympics. The overwhelming majority of polls were canceled or postponed again. It has changed subtly as the opening day approaches.
