Kevin Durant is likely to strengthen Team USA in Tokyo

Team USA has probably received the next confirmation for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. As Shams Charania and Anthony Slater (both The Athletic) report, Kevin Durant will probably also be there.

The 32-year-old recently dropped out of the playoffs with the Brooklyn Nets against the Milwaukee Bucks, now he could aim for his third gold medal after 2012 and 2016. In 2010 Durant was already world champion with the USA and was voted MVP of the tournament there.

With that said, Team USA’s roster is slowly taking shape, reportedly Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers), Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards) and Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns ) has already confirmed five more stars.

Durant’s acceptance would come as a surprise, after all, the two-time finals MVP completely missed the 2019/20 season with a ruptured Achilles tendon and struggled with injuries every now and then this season. In addition, KD reeled off a high workload in the playoffs, in games 5 to 7 of the conference semifinals alone, Durant played 141 of 149 possible minutes.

In a little over two weeks, the team will meet for the first time for the Olympics; the training camp will take place in Las Vegas from July 6th to 18th.
