Judoka Van Dijke conquers bronze at World Cup, Jager eliminated after stunt

Van Dijke was told at the end of April that she had qualified for the Olympic Games at the expense of Kim Polling. Polling instituted various proceedings against that decision, but the four-time European champion was not proved right.

In Budapest, Van Dijke received a bye in the first round. In the second round she made short work of the American Chantal Wright within a minute. After that she also had little trouble with the Hungarian Szabina Gercsak and the Irish Megan Fletcher, who knocked them both down with a shoulder throw: ippon.

Noël van ‘t End, reigning world champion in this weight class, is missing from the Hungarian capital. He is preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.
