Jacob deGrom would have injured himself hitting and not throwing

I admit, I am from the old school and I still prefer the strategies that prevail in the National because of the pitchers who have to come to bat.

With a few exceptions including Madison Bumgarner and Jacob deGrom, it is a chore for gunners to play this role, but for the decisions managers have to make and the adjustments opposing defenses have to make, I still appreciate it. that aspect of the game.

Precisely, about deGrom, it appears that his last presence at bat could cost him dearly.

During his last shortened outing against Chicago (Cubs), the Mets ace admits to having been injured trying to hold back his momentum while he had his stick in his hands and not by making a shot.

This unfortunate situation highlights the possible application of the universal hitter of choice rule which would force the National teams to imitate those of the American while the pitchers would no longer appear at home as a hitter.

Okay, purists will be able to criticize this decision, but the reality is, if we allow stars who make millions of dollars to shoot and win wins to do their jobs well, I will come together and welcome this change.

Two-time Cy Young Trophy winner deGrom was briskly heading for a third title as part of an outrageous dominance by his opponents in 2021.

Facing the Cubs, deGrom was taken out of the game due to stiffness in his shoulder. Fortunately for the Mets and baseball fans in general, he was not placed on the injured list and will be able to return to work soon.

Last year, as part of a shortened schedule due to the pandemic, major baseball authorities decided to allow National pitchers not to go to bat in order to avoid injury. The bad posture in which deGrom finds himself currently reactivates the subject, which nevertheless looks like a controversy within an ultra conservative sport.

It will still be a shame not to see deGrom hit again one day, because he is very good at it. This season, the tall right-hander has made 11 hits in 26 appearances, scoring four points while producing six.
