Indian women archers lose and break out of Tokyo Olympics discord

The Indian women’s archery team lost 0-6 to Colombia in the opener and crashed in an Olympic qualifying tournament here on Sunday. It was the last opportunity for them to win a team quota place.

Only the top three teams will earn a quota spot for the Tokyo Olympics, starting July 23.

In the morning session of the final qualifier, India finished second behind Mexico. In the afternoon session, the squad, made up of Deepika Kumari, Komalika Bari and Ankita Bhakat, fell short of expectations and lost their first game against Colombia -0-6 to withdraw from the race to the Olympics.

In the 2019 Olympic qualifying round, Deepika had qualified in an individual event for the Olympics.

The recurve men’s team of Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav won the team quota at the 2019 World Championships in the Netherlands.

The qualifying tournament will be followed by stage 3 of the World Cup from Monday.
