Imke Courtois and Emma Plasschaert christen new sailing ship of the Flemish Sailing School in Nieuwpoort “Imke”

Imke Courtois has already obtained her yachtman license herself. “Before that certification, it was all about pure theory, but I’m not nearly that good at sailing yet. I’m also very happy that I can get to know the boating school, where they pay attention to practical lessons. Sailing an ocean is definitely not the same as sailing in a harbor or taking locks. I think I should take some practical lessons.”

“Sailing is also very difficult. You usually don’t do that alone, but with the help of others. The more experiences you have, the better, because you can never know what the weather conditions will be. One time there is strong wind, the next time no wind. The waves also feel different every time. In every area there are different currents or you have to take sandbanks into account. And then you also have the rules of the different areas that you need to know. That is not from the cat,” laughs Courtois.
