Hialeah-born Cuban leads major league hitters

The Cuban player Nick Castellanos, of the Cincinnati Reds, has become the leading hitter in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Castellanos, born in Hialeah 29 years ago, has hit 229 in 57 games in which he has gone to the diamond this season, according to the Web page from the MLB.

He is the son of a doctor who emigrated from Cuba to South Florida, where the now star player began playing baseball at a very young age.

He made his MLB debut on September 1, 2013 with the Detroit Tigers. He was with them until July 31, 2019, when they traded him to the Chicago Cubs.

On January 27, 2020, Castellanos signed a four-year, $ 64 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds.

In the 2020 season, shorter due to the coronavirus pandemic, he played 60 games in which he hit 225, with 14 homers and 34 RBIs.
