Harlem Globetrotters Want to Become an NBA Expansion Team

Even if last January, the commissioner of the NBA affirmed that Europe and China could be in the crosshairs in the event of expansion, an American group has just offered to join the ranks of the league.

The Harlem Globetrotters.

In fact, they do not offer. They are claiming their place in the NBA. Nothing less!

In an official letter sent to Adam Silver, the Harlem Globetrotters make strong arguments to justify their request.

In 1948 and 1949, the Harlem Globetrotters defeated reigning NBA champions, the Minneapolis Lakers.

Then, instead of welcoming Harlem into its ranks, the NBA signed contracts to the best players of the Globetrotters; Nat Sweetwater Clifton and Earl Lloyd among others.

The Harlem Globetrotters claim to have helped popularize basketball around the world by playing in 122 different countries while the NBA has played games in “only” 17 countries.

According to them, the NBA would not be what it is today without their contribution and it is time to rectify the situation.

When do they want their team? The. Now. Right now!

Nowhere is it a question of where the team might play; neither the city nor the amphitheater.

Seattle? Montreal? Elsewhere?

It doesn’t matter. I would love for them to get their place in the NBA since I have a soft spot for the Harlem Globetrotters since I got to have fun with one of theirs a few years ago on Oops!

Go Globes Go!
