The defending champion of last year’s title, Iga Šwiateková, scored a smooth second win at the tournament. The Polish tennis player beat the Swede Rebecca Peterson 6: 1, 6: 1 in the second round and so far she has spent less than two and a half hours on the courts in two rounds in two rounds. On the contrary, the injury did not let go of the world number one Ashleigh Barty. Last year’s champion shortened the match with Polka Magda Linetteová at 1: 6, 2: 2.

The 34-year-old Djokovic deflected eight of the nine breakballs in a duel with a clay specialist and spent only two hours on the court. “The third set was very difficult for me. I improved the game, I stayed focused, and when I needed it, my service worked,” said the 2016 champion on the court.

Clay King Nadal, who is attacking the record 14th title in Paris, has advanced in the process and won the first set in 26 minutes with the canary. The smooth ride stalled at 5: 2 in the second set, when he first did not use a setball when serving his opponent, then lost service and had to fight for the set. In the third set, he had control of the game again and defeated Gasquet in the 17th match.

Thirty-nine-year-old Federer, who plays his first grand slam after 16 months, was eliminated in the second set after a smooth first set. He also let himself be distracted by a warning for delaying the game on the reception, after which he had a long debate with the main referee. He then won the even third set in a tie-break, in which he recognized Čilič’s first serve as an ace. The referee, who came to check the impact of the ball, considered it more of a car, but Federer acknowledged the point. Even so, he got a shortened game and smoothly the fourth set.

Twenty-five-year-old Barty, who missed most of the season due to a coronavirus pandemic last year, started in the first round with a taped left thigh. After almost two hours of fighting, she defeated the American Bernard Pera 6: 4, 3: 6, 6: 2 and extended her winning streak at Roland Garros to eight matches. This time, however, her health did not let her go.

Muchová was not surprised by the disguise of her opponent in Paris, Krejčíková is in trouble

“It’s a new injury, nothing like this has ever happened to me before. It got worse today, I went through the pain from the beginning and it started to be dangerous,” Barty commented on the resignation.

“It’s a big disappointment, but even if it hurts now, it won’t take me a great last three months,” Barty said. “We did our best to get in. It’s a small miracle that I was able to play at least the first round,” she added.

Barty returned to the courts in January after a break of almost a year and almost immediately won the Yarra Valley Classic in Melbourne, but lost unexpectedly with Carolina Muchova in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. She then won tournaments in Miami and Stuttgart, most recently in Rome in May due to injuries.
