European Championship short: Ronaldo is “more motivated than ever”, Thelin on standby with Sweden | European Football Championship 2020

Cristiano Ronaldo starts his fifth European Football Championship with unbridled enthusiasm. “I am at this European Championship as if it were my first. I feel just as motivated or even more motivated than in 2004, at my first European Championship,” the 36-year-old captain told the Portuguese magazine “360”.

“We are the defending champions and we are again one of the contenders for the trophy. It makes no sense to promise titles or make predictions. What I can promise is that we play every game with the intention of winning.”

The Portuguese team will play against Hungary for the first time in Budapest on Tuesday, in group F. 4 days later, Germany is the opponent in Munich. Ronaldo’s team will face world champions France on June 23.

“These are the opponents we have to play against. We respect every team,” said Ronaldo, who is top scorer at the European Championship (9 goals) along with Frenchman Michel Platini. “There are no easy matches.”
