Ercan Kara before moving to England’s second division »abseits.at

According to English newspaper reports and numerous observers on Twitter, rapid goalgetter Ercan Kara has been linked with a move to the English club Luton Town. Some even believe that he is already staying in England for sports medicine tests.

The transfer fee is currently two million pounds, i.e. about 2.33 million euros. Kara’s contract with Rapid runs until summer 2022.

Luton are looking for a new center-forward after the previous top scorer, Irishman James Collins, will join Cardiff City on a free transfer. Luton currently plays in the championship, the second highest English division, and ended last season in the middle of the table, in 12th place out of 24.

Nevertheless, the rumor does not seem particularly ripe for a decision. After all, the small team’s record transfer so far from the city north of London was Croatian goalkeeper Simon Sluga, who came from Rijeka for £ 1.5m in 2019. Luton paid more than a million twice in the first place.

Although the Championship is now a very financially strong league, in which numerous clubs earn very high transfer funds from the Premier League and the TV funds have already reached a respectable level, the team from Kenilworth Road in particular is so different in Corona times “Take over” would be a surprise.

Luton has made a real breakthrough in recent years: In 2017/18 they played in the fourth division, but then rose twice in a row, saved themselves just before relegation to the third division in 2020 and now consolidated in the middle of the table of the championship. The team has been looked after for a year by Welshman Nathan Jones, who will be faced with some construction sites before the new season because at least eight players will leave the team.
