Shortly before the start of the European Championship match between Germany and France, at least two people were injured in an unsuccessful action by the environmental organization Greenpeace when an activist flew into the stadium with a motorized paraglider labeled “Kick Out Oil” and landed. The protest should be the car manufacturer Volkswagen as a sponsor. During his approach to the field, the man had caught a cable in the area of the stadium roof, causing him to lose control of his paraglider. According to the police, the pilot injured two male people in the head. Acute emergency medical care was not necessary, however. Two players, including Germany’s defender Antonio Rüdiger, approached the paraglider and offered him help before he was escorted by security forces. DFB press spokesman Jens Gritter on the action: “Of course, we as the DFB also condemn them, because they not only endangered and injured themselves, but also others. And from our point of view that is of course unacceptable and the process is now being examined, lies with the police, with the authorities here in Munich, and with Uefa. ” Greenpeace Germany wrote on Twitter: “Hey Volkswagen! Time to throw out oil! We demand: Stop the sale of climate-damaging diesel and gasoline cars.” In another tweet, the organization apologized for the unsuccessful action.
