EM 2021 | Löw’s starting XI: This is how Germany starts against Portugal

National coach Joachim Löw knows how important the second European Championship group game against the strong Portuguese is. And he obviously trusts these eleven national players to win. At least they are in the starting line-up.

Joachim Löw will not make any personnel changes for the second game at the European Football Championship. In the group game against Portugal, the national coach offers the same on Saturday evening in Munich Starting line-up as in the 0: 1 at the start against France. As in the defeat against the world champion, Joshua Kimmich will play on the right wing and not in the center, which will again be occupied by Ilkay Gündogan and Toni Kroos.

Löw before the match on ARD: “As a coach you think a lot. Klostermann (another option for the right-hand side; editor’s note) is injured. Kimmich is important because he operates on the right-hand side.”

Kai Havertz, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Müller continue to form the offensive three-way chain. Leroy Sané and Timo Werner are initially back on the bench. Before captain Manuel Neuer, Löw relies on the three-man chain with Matthias Ginter, Mats Hummels and Antonio Rüdiger. Leon Goretzka is sitting on the bench for the first time after his hamstring torn and, according to Löw, is an ideal option for a substitute.

Not in the 23-player line-up are Lukas Klostermann (torn muscle), Jonas Hofmann (knee) and Jamal Musiala. The 18-year-old Bayern professional had missed a number of units in preparation due to muscular problems. The offensive player also had to take a seat in the stands against France.

Löw also explained what one of the big problems in the first group game (o: 1 against France; editor’s note) was: “If we were against France in the last third and had the chance to move forward, it was nothing. It has to be different. If that happens, we have to go through with it. “

Pressure for the DFB team

The DFB-Elf is under pressure against the Portuguese. Another defeat would significantly worsen the prospects of reaching the round of 16.

The German line-up:

Neuer – Ginter, Hummels, Rüdiger – Kimmich, Gündogan, Kroos, Gosens – Havertz, Gnabry, Müller
