Djokovic, the main attraction in Mallorca, will play doubles

Novak Djokovic, the world’s number one tennis player, has accepted the invitation of the organizers of the ATP 250 in Mallorca and will play in the doubles table of the Balearic tournament that will be held from June 19 to 26 on the natural grass pitches of the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponsa.

The winner of 19 Grand Slam and recent champion on clay at Roland Garros, he plans to arrive on the island with the aim of preparing his participation in the Wimbledon tournament.

The courts at the Mallorca Country Club “have been specially built with the same grass as the London Grand Slam,” say the organizers.

The Serbian will be accompanied by his entire technical team, led by another champion at the All England Club, former Croatian tennis player Goran Ivanisevic, who will face the former German tennis player Tommy Haas in an exhibition match that will inaugurate the new center court of the Country Club of Santa Ponsa.

Edwin Weindorfer, promoter of the event, has expressed his satisfaction to have Djokovic along with other outstanding tennis players, such as Austrian Dominic Thiem, Australian Nick Kyrgios and Norwegian Casper Rudd, among others.

“We are very happy that Novak Djokovic begins his preparation for the highlight of the season which will be Wimbledon at the Mallorca Championships,” said Weindorfer.

“After the intense weeks at Roland Garros, with many exhausting matches, he will focus in the coming days on training at the Mallorca Country Club, but he will also contribute to giving prominence to the tournament by participating in the doubles competition,” he said.
