Diego Llorente, second positive for La Roja

Spain already has two players infected by covid. The Federation announced after midnight that Diego Llorente, Leeds central defender, has tested positive after the PCR that was carried out yesterday (Two tests were carried out) for which he has been isolated and has left the Las Rozas concentration camp. The other 22 soccer players of Luis Enrique gave negative in the tests carried out, as confirmed by official sources at the edge of one in the morning. The president of the Federation, Luis Rubiales, had acknowledged an hour before that case was made public that “they may be more positive, it is likely that it will happen.”

The footballer who dazzled Bielsa

The virus has entered the dressing rooms of Spain and Sweden, two teams that will meet next Monday at La Cartuja on the first day of Group E of the European Championship. Because in addition to Busquets and Diego Llorente (not to be confused with Marcos, the Atlético player), Sweden, Spain’s rival in Monday’s debut at the European Championship, also has two infected players. First the contagion of the Juventus midfielder was notified Dejan Kulusevski, one of the stars of the Scandinavian team, and hours later the infection of the middle of Bologna was reported Mattias Svanberg, who had to drop out of training after the test results were passed on to him. The uncertainty is maximum just five days before the continental premiere.

Sweden announces two positives within six days of playing against Spain

Monday’s match between the Spaniards and the Swedes is not in danger -Having 13 healthy footballers authorizes them to compete and comply with the UEFA protocol-, but the previous days are not the best and everyone’s ears are stiff because of the virus. No one is free from the infection, spread throughout the continent, so security measures are taken to extremes in order to minimize the risk of contagion. At the moment, La Roja and his first rival work with many limitations. The training sessions are individual, the players are separated and even breakfasts and meals are done in shifts to avoid crowds. Preparation has been compromised and the fear of new cases is under the skin, a sensation experienced by the 24 teams at the European Championship. Both Spain and Sweden, confined, seek traceability to detect the origin of the contagion and undergo daily PCR tests in order to guarantee the safety of the group and contain the pathogen.

Busquets left the concentration as soon as his positive was known to move to his home in Barcelona. Kulusevski and Svanberg have also been isolated and will be casualties in Seville. Both teams are awaiting the tests and striving to avoid an outbreak that would turn their participation in the European Championship upside down. The coach of the Scandinavian team, Janne Andersson, said that he would not call anyone to replace the two affected players and hopes to recover them in the face of the next clashes. Now it is a question of avoiding collective transmission and preventing more cases from appearing. It is the great fear, which will remain latent during the tournament.

Controversy over vaccination

The selection had requested its inclusion in the preferential vaccination schedule, a subject that in theory was going to be discussed yesterday at the meeting of the Public Health Committee. Well, that group of experts was inhibited and left the decision in the hands of the Government. He did so because he understands that this matter is not within his competence and he did not even vote. Raising the express immunization of La Roja caused surprise even among the socialist representatives attached to this body, a forum that “has nothing to say” in this regard. So it will be the Interterritorial Health Council that gives the green light today to the administration of the serum. In principle, the vaccine was to be Janssen’s, but as it was a young population, another preparation could be chosen.

The Minister of Culture and Sports, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, has been one of the great defenders of the immunization process and yesterday he defended it again in the Ser. «We are not vaccinating footballers, we are vaccinating the national team. Is an exception. And when we make exceptions it has to be justified, “he said. “We vaccinate the national team players because they represent us in a top-level competition. The country understands that they must go with the maximum guarantees. It has nothing to do with skipping anything.

Yet not everybody thinks like this. The president of the Spanish Vaccination Association and member of the Health Expert Committee, Amos García Rojas, on Antena 3 refused to prioritize the team. «By age they do not belong to vulnerable groups nor are they especially exposed to risk». The Patient Organizations Platform also raised its voice, lamenting that chronically ill patients continue to be “invisible” to the Government while sportspeople are favored.
