Diamond League:Mihambo second in Rome

Long jump world champion Malaika Mihambo made her first exclamation mark around a month and a half before the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The 27-year-old from Heidelberg achieved the greatest distance at the Diamond League meeting in Rome with a personal season best of 6.82 meters and again indicated seven-meter potential. But it wasn’t enough to win. According to the new mode, the top three finishers determine the winner after five rounds in a final attempt. Mihambo was 6.33 meters behind the Serbian Olympic third party Ivana Spanovic (6.56), who had previously been behind with 6.74. “I’m actually very happy with my competition, it was the best of the season and a step in the right direction,” said Mihambo.

The highlight of the evening was provided by Norway’s exceptional talent Jakob Ingebrigtsen with a European record over 5000 meters. He won in 12: 48.45 minutes and remained under the previous mark of the Belgian Mohammed Mourhit from 2000 (12: 49.71) for over a second.
