Denmark must fear elimination after masterclass substitute De Bruyne

Signal for Roberto Martínez to bring De Bruyne inside the lines at the start of the second half. And not much later also Witsel (his first playing minutes since January) and Eden Hazard.

The Parken stadium was immediately treated to De Bruyne’s first example of college football, who sent two men into the woods with a foot movement and let Thorgan Hazard score the 1-1. With a hard shot into the short corner, the Manchester City midfielder personally gave the Belgians the lead.

Modest

De Bruyne played without a mask after suffering a broken nose and eye socket in the Champions League final. But the big star of the Belgians saved his smile for later.

He celebrated his winning goal modestly, as it best suited the evening. The day on which Denmark must fear elimination after a second defeat, in the week when it became clear that there are more important things in life than football.
