Cuba is fighting for an Olympic ticket in baseball – newspaper work

Havanna. The Cuban Baseball Association (FCB) is recognized the right to participate in the pre-Olympic baseball tournament in Florida. As the Granma, the central organ of the Communist Party of Cuba, reported, the FCB was informed about the issuance of the visas administered in the US embassy in Havana, which were still outstanding, so that the Cuban team can travel to the pre-Olympic tournament of America in Florida. The winner of this tournament will also secure a place for the Olympic Games, which will be held in Tokyo.

“Cuba thanks all institutions and individuals who have contributed with good will and active problem-solving to overcoming the many obstacles in order to ensure the participation of the Cuban baseball team in the pre-Olympic tournament in Florida,” said Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, member of the Politburo and Foreign Minister of the Republic.

The news about the issuance of visas was received with joy by the Cuban Baseball Association and the players, as this decision to the last depended on whether Cuba would even get a chance to realize its dream of Tokyo. The FCB stated that “Cuba will contest the competition with the dignity, love of the jersey and fairness that characterize the Cuban sports movement.” One can see the good offices of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation, the Organizing Committee and the Olympic Committee of the United States, and would now like to take the opportunity “to concretize the law that stands on our side.”

The baseball association of Cuba has now agreed preparatory games against Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic for the next few days. These games are important for the team in order to be able to fix the final details of the game before it comes to the first confrontation of the tournament. At the pre-Olympic tournament in Florida, Venezuela will be Cuba’s first opponent.
