BUDAPEST – (gbr). It was a real thriller – with a bitter ending for Alexander Wieczerzak. The 30-year-old from the Judo Club Wiesbaden offered the Japanese Sotaro Fujiwara a thrilling fight at the start of the 81-kilo class at the World Championships in Budapest, but lost after three and a half minutes in extra time with 2: 3 penalties and thus probably has his lost the last chance for the Olympic ticket. Wieczerzak, world champion from 2017, brought the World Cup runner-up from 2018 into trouble early on, sniffing a quick victory with an arm lever attempt. An open exchange of blows developed. When Wieczerzak received his third penalty after seven and a half minutes, the end was sealed. “I gave everything not to reproach myself. Sotaro is an excellent fighter, ”said Wieczerzak.
