BG Göttingen: Stephen Brown is the name of the new violet leader

Basketball Bundesliga club BG Göttingen has a new point guard: On Tuesday, the violets announced the commitment of American Stephen Brown, who used to play for the Giessen 46ers jobstairs. The 25-year-old, who last played in France for the second division team Denain ASC Voltaire, will receive a one-year contract.

“Stephen has great leadership and the skills I prefer in a builder. He wants to defend and put pressure on the opposing guard. His speed helps him to create on the offensive – first for his teammates, then for himself, ”says BG head coach Roel Moors about the 25-year-old. “Stephen should lead the team on the floor in the coming season.”

Brown played 32 games for the French in the 2020/21 season, which only ended last weekend. He was on the starting grid for 31 of them. On average, the newcomer Veilchen came to around 28 minutes of playing time per game. He achieved an average of 13.8 points, gave 4.7 assists and got 3.0 rebounds. At the start of the season, the Guard had played a game for British club London Lions in the Basketball Champions League before moving to France.

Brown spent his college career from 2014 to 2018 at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The Guard ran 131 times for the bison – always as a starter since his second year. In his senior year, the American stood on the floor for around 30 minutes per game. His average yield: 15.1 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds.

The 25-year-old started his professional career in the summer of 2018 in Turkey with the second division Yalova Group Belediye Spor, for which he only played three games before moving to Estonia to the first division BC Valga-Vakla. Brown began preparing for the 2019/20 season at the Russian club Ural Yekaterinburg, but moved to Giessen before the start of the season.

Before the season was interrupted due to the corona pandemic, the builder player for the 46ers made 19 appearances – stood on the floor for an average of 29 minutes, scored 13.0 points, gave 5.1 assists and got 2.2 rebounds. The Giessen did not take part in the 2020 final tournament.

The future Veilchen squad includes Mathis Mönninghoff, Akeem Vargas, Haris Hujic, Jake Toolson, Philipp Hartwich and Stephen Brown.

Meanwhile, Justin Sears is getting fit for upcoming tasks at the Göttingen basketball center. The American in the service of s.Oliver Würzburg (previously Ludwigsburg and Oldenburg, among others) tore a cruciate ligament in January, the third serious injury in two and a half years.

According to Tageblatt information, the center is now using the possibilities of the well-equipped basketball center and is working on his constitution with coach Philipp Sprung at the Athleticum Junge. The 27-year-old has a contract with s.Oliver Würzburg.
