“Being here does me good”

Santiago Vescovi was among the 12 who will travel to Canada where Uruguay will have to face Turkey and the Czech Republic in the first instance of the contest. The one born in Bohemios spoke with Básquet Total.

“I am very happy and I am proud to be in the national team. It is a challenge that is very good to face “ began by claiming the current player from the University of Tennessee.

Santiago had the chance to play in Aguada but the American university denied this request and took the opportunity to enjoy the country and better prepare for the challenge that is coming: “I’m very happy. Being here makes me feel good. Being able to spend more time with the family helps a lot and the fact of being able to continue training, of being able to continue getting in shape to go back to university in a better way helps me a lot. It is a pride to be here and to be able to represent Uruguay ”.

The mixture of ages that exists in the perimeter generates that Uruguay can have many styles and different ways of how to solve or assume in the moments of conduction and decision. One of the youngest on the squad looks favorably upon the variety of heavenly options and seeks to exploit them to the fullest: “Yor I come to learn all the time from them, I focus on the experience. Be attentive to the things that make me different that suddenly I do not see them. There are things they do that you don’t see in the United States. This is a constant learning process and being with them will help me a lot to improve my game ”.

The permanence in the United States and the North American style of play can become a hidden weapon that Magnano’s team can present when Vescovi is on the court: “I don’t know if he can play us for or against us but it helps me to prepare a lot for what is coming. I think the speed of the game in the United States is different and therefore I think that can help me a lot. But I take everything as learning and to be a better player ”.

Uruguay aims to be as competitive as possible without forgetting that it will face world-class teams. Despite this, Vescovi welcomes the preparation for the event: “This team is very good, it is focused. We are doing things well and the important thing is to put in a lot of head. We are going to learn in the following days the basketball that we have to face but always with our heads in the first game, we go step by step ”.

Vescovi is coming off a good season with his team and already sets his next goals for the next event wearing the white and orange jacket: “I feel very well. I had a couple of talks with the coaches where there are new challenges and new goals for next year because I know that the style of play that we are going to have will be different. I have discussed it with the technicians and we will see how everything transforms for next year. I am very happy to be able to return ”.
