PARIS – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is starting to move in the 2021 summer transfer market. PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, even mentioned the possibility of bringing Lionel Messi from Barcelona.
As is known, Messi’s contract at Barcelona will expire on June 30. However, an agreement regarding Messi’s new contract has not been reached until now.
Indeed, Messi has wanted to leave Barcelona since the start of the 2020-2021 season. However, Barcelona are reluctant to let go of the Argentine player.
Messi did not want to fight with Barcelona so he chose to spend his last year at Barcelona. After this season ended, rumors of Messi’s departure heated up again.

Messi’s availability this summer caught PSG’s attention. Al-Khelaifi even praised Messi who is one of the best footballers in the history of football.
“All I can say is that all great players want to come to PSG. It’s impossible to sign all of them because we already have great footballers in our squad. Even so, Messi is Messi, a fantastic player,” Al-Khelaifi told The team, quoted from Sportsmole, Tuesday (8/6/2021).
However, Barcelona will not let PSG get Messi just like that. Moments ago, Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, confirmed that Messi’s new contract negotiations were going well.
Laporta stated that the core of Messi’s new contract is not money, but the future and sport. Laporta is also optimistic that Messi will last longer at Barcelona.
“Messi’s renewal is not dependent on an audit (of the club’s finances). We are in talks with Leo’s agent and it is going well,” Laporta said Sbs.
“We hope that negotiations will continue to progress. What happened with Leo – Messi’s nickname – is not a question of money, but of the future and of sport,” said the Spaniard.
“He wants to continue this idea (playing with Barcelona) because he wants a team that can help him win the Spanish League, Champions League and titles in the short term,” he said.
