Within the framework of the Youth Sports Games promoted by the Managua Mayor’s Office in coordination with the Alexis Argüello Sports Movement, the baseball tournament was inaugurated with 10 teams from the 7 capital districts.
This tournament was inaugurated at the facilities of the Roberto Clemente Stadium which is located in the Luis Alfonso Velázquez Flores Park, where more than 200 young athletes between the ages of 14 to 17 years old who reside in the most popular neighborhoods of each district gathered, which they were also captured by the Directorate of Juvenile Affairs of the National Police.
The Vice Mayor of Managua Enrique Armas was in charge of giving the opening remarks in which he urged young people to continue practicing sports, especially when they have the support of a mayor’s office and a Sandinista government that promotes many sports disciplines such as baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, judo, karate, chess, swimming, handball and others.
“Today we have teams from the 7 districts of Managua, teams that have girls on their rosters because now it is allowed and now it is played and there are important national women’s baseball tournaments and girls from the different districts have joined the teams that are participating. in this tournament that is played on weekends between Saturday and Sunday “Armas said.
This youth championship takes place in parallel with the tournament of the sports academies promoted by the Mayor of Managua, as well as the championships in other sports disciplines already mentioned.
“It is my second time that I am going to participate in the youth games, the first time went well for me and I hope this occasion is better. I have been practicing baseball for about ten years and my goal is to play in the big leagues and I currently belong to the Dantos team “said player Fernando Blandón.
Abigaíl Sánchez said she is very happy because she has been able to join a baseball team thanks to the opportunities offered by the Managua Mayor’s Office to involve women in the practice of sports.
