Baseball star Zombro “can’t wait to go back” as he shows scars from brain surgery after being hit by a bullet (GRAPHIC)

The 26-year-old pitcher was hit in the head by a fastball from Brett Cumberland of the Norfolk Tides in a minor league game on June 3 while playing for the Triple-A Durham Bulls, a starting squad for MLB, Rays, after which he was thrown out of the field on a stretcher. He was seen convulsing on the grass as medical treatment reached him.

Zombro was released from Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina last week and has since been taken to social media to show horrific scars from his brain surgery as he recounts the serious injury.

« Incredibly grateful to be in the situation I am currently in with the incredible help of Duke Hospital and staffZombro wrote on Twitter with a sequence of photographs showing the various stages of his operation and his subsequent recovery.

« To all of you who have showered me and my family with positive thoughts, I have no doubt that all of the prayer support has kept God with me throughout this night as I am in a very lucky position, everything. well considered. The outpouring of support and prayer meant the world to Moriah and me, and I certainly believe you wished me a better recovery.

« At Rays baseball and Durham Bulls, I can’t thank you enough for treating me like you did, because that’s what makes our organization so special. In the optimistic news: I’ve never been the fastest on the pitch so maybe I got a boost after this surgery“, He added, referring to images of him hanging out in a hospital corridor after the surgery.

« Thanks again to the entire baseball community for the support, I’m a lucky guy and can’t wait to go back (when I will)! May God bless you all!, ” he added.

The series of photographs uploaded by Zombro is certainly not for the faint of heart and shows a semicircular scar several inches long on the right side of his skull between his forehead and his ear.

While everyone agrees that Zombro’s surgery was a success, the baseball hopeful now faces a long road to recovery and will begin a full outpatient rehabilitation therapy program – and until. Now, neither Zombro’s doctors nor the Tampa Bay Rays organization have indicated whether he will be allowed to make a full return to the sport.

Zombro’s statement was noted by the entire baseball community, with hundreds of supporters writing notes to encourage him throughout his recovery.

« WOW that’s all I can say, thanks for the update. I was there that night and it was scary. Four throws and the stadium was silent as everyone prayed for your safety. Glad to see you are taking steps towards recovery and we wish you continued success on your journey“, Replied a fan.

« Stay strong boy, this whole town is supporting you! Another said, while a third said they were counting the days until Zombro returned to the pitcher’s mound.

« Keep getting stronger every day and you’ll come back to the game you love… it’s not going anywhere! ” they wrote.
