Army Competitive Sports Center | Judo Vorarlberg

The Army Competitive Sports Center is the competence center for physical performance in the Austrian Armed Forces.

The steadily growing fields of activity of the HLSZ include three central departments:

  • military and sports science research
  • the specific training and further education of the cadre soldiers
  • the promotion of competitive sports

The armed forces have been supporting top-class sport in Austria since 1962. The promotion of competitive sport is implemented in 10 Army Competitive Sports Centers (HLSZ). Up to 400 competitive athletes in the armed forces are supported every year. Olympic sports of the federal sports organizations and military focus sports are funded.

The HLSZ 09

The HLSZ 09 has existed since 1983, when the first 14 high-performance athletes in the armed forces moved into the provisional high-performance center in Dornbirn (Kolpinghaus). Since 2000, officer deputy Daniel Devigili (himself a former karate world champion) has been responsible for competitive athletes in the armed forces. In 2007 the company moved to the state sports center in Dornbirn.

The joint location of the HLSZ and the Vorarlberg Olympic Center enables many common synergies to be created and is a particularly effective way of using optimal training conditions, especially for Vorarlberg’s athletes.
