Uruguayans Mikael Aprahamian and Rodrigo Gamou fell in the first round of the World Cup in Hungary, the last stage to score points for qualification for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

Aprahamian, who still has a chance of reaching the competition, fell to Canadian Etienne Briand by ippon at the close of the fight in the category of up to 81 kilograms.

Rodrigo Gamou meanwhile and in the same category, was defeated by Belgian Sami Chouchi at 2:35 of action by the same route, although the celestial judoka managed to score a wazari.

“Mika” will now have to wait for the closing of the World Cup and the reordering of rankings and positions by the International Judo Federation to find out if he has access to the continental quota that will take him to the highest sport event in Japan.

Let us remember that judo comes from having two consecutive participations in the Olympic Games with Juan Romero in London 2012 and Pablo Aprahamian in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
