Alvaro Morata & his family receive death threats after Spain beat Poland

The Juventus forward misses the rebound after Gerard Moreno’s penalty misses at Euro 2020

Spain striker Alvaro Morata has been bombarded with threats and insults – including threats to kill his son – after failing to score in open goal against Poland at Euro 2020.

The Juventus forward missed a rebound after Gerard Moreno’s penalty missed in Seville, and it ended 1-1 so La Roja was in danger of not qualifying for the last 16 of the European Cup.

Morata, who recently renewed his loan in Turin from Atletico Madrid, said he couldn’t sleep after the match against Poland because of bullies, but he was determined to continue playing and bringing titles to his country.

He spoke to a Spanish radio station ChainCOPE: “I didn’t sleep for nine hours after the game against Poland. I received threats, insults to my family, wishing my son died.”

“I’m fine, maybe a few years ago I would have felt a mess. I’ve spent a few weeks isolated from everything.”

Morata, who opened La Roja’s lead against Poland before Robert Lewandowski’s header equalized, said he received pressure and criticism for his form, but some on social media had gone too far.

“I understand I’ve been criticized for not scoring goals, but I hope people can put themselves into what it’s like to receive a threat, seeing someone say your son should just die. What irritates me is they said that to my wife and child. say everything.”

Asked why he chose to comment on the threat publicly, Morata added: “I hope people can feel what it’s like to be me. I have two options: stay quiet or come yesterday and explain.”

After struggling in the first two games, draws versus Sweden and Poland, La Roja rampaged and bulldozed Slovakia five goals without reply to finish second in Group E and qualify for the knockout stages.

They face Croatia tomorrow Monday (28/6) and Morata expects a tough game: “They are classy. Brozovic, Modrid and Kovacic, it will be a very physical game and we have to close everything.”

Spain could face world champions France in the quarter-finals, but Morata said the 2008 and 2012 European champions feared no one.

“I don’t think we are below France or Germany. There is a lot to improve, but it is absurd to believe we are better or worse.”
