A page is turning on the side of Petit-Rechain, where the Hotel du Midi abandons tennis and badminton to switch to padel.

Casually, it’s a small institution that has just taken a 180-degree turn.

The Hotel “Le Midi” (Rue du Midi 9 in Petit-Rechain), where yellow ball and shuttlecock enthusiasts indulged in their favorite sports, is giving up tennis and badminton to switch to padel. The three tennis courts and the two badminton courts have now given way to four padel courts.

These have been available for booking since Wednesday, June 9 and reinforce the regional offer for this booming racquet sport. After Tiège, Lambermont and soon Henri-Chapelle (in particular), it is now possible to practice padel at the Hotel Le Midi.

As elsewhere, reservations can be made via a dedicated smartphone application, and winter subscriptions will also be offered very soon.

Right next to DiWi Sports

After more than 20 years of tennis, the Hôtel du Midi is therefore entering a new chapter with this ambitious padel project. Not insignificant advantage of the Rechaintoise facilities, the immediate proximity to the sports equipment store (tennis, padel) DiWi, behind which we find Didier Windmeulen, true padel ambassador in the region and member of the padel committee of RETC Lambermont.

It seems clear: the establishment of Bernard Deby, where some tennis schools such as TC Herve took up residence during the winter season, may attract the curious and this, from this weekend.

The new “Padel du Midi” is organizing a “Spanish-style” tournament starting this weekend, with two categories (MD200 & MD500) of eight pairs each. Unsurprisingly, this inaugural tournament is already sold out. It is nonetheless a great opportunity to discover this sport and the new padel courts in the Midi (info via 087 32 17 50).
