Zidane: «I’m leaving because the club doesn’t give me the confidence I need»

Zinedine Zidane has broken his silence to explain his departure from Real Madrid. Less than a week after his farewell to the white bench was announced, the French coach took the floor to offer the reasons to the white fans. “I’m leaving because I feel that the club no longer gives me the confidence I need,” says the coach in an open letter published in the newspaper ‘AS’.

«I’m going, but I’m not jumping off the boat and I’m not tired of training. In May 2018 I left because after two and a half years with so many victories and so many trophies I felt that the team needed a new discourse to stay on top. Today things are different. I am leaving because I feel that the club no longer gives me the confidence I need, it does not offer me the support to build something in the medium or long term, ”explained the Frenchman.

It is his main reproach, which in this case points to the directive and sports management. «I know that when you don’t win you have to go. But here a very important thing has been forgotten, everything that I have built on a daily basis has been forgotten, what I have contributed in the relationship with the players, with the one hundred and fifty people who work with and around the team, “he says. critical.

Zidane continues in the same vein, accusing those in charge of the club of filtering interested messages to the press to create interference in the squad. “It hurt a lot when I read in the press, after a loss, that they were going to kick me out if I didn’t win the next game. It hurt me and the whole team because these messages intentionally leaked to the media created negative interference with the staff, created doubts and misunderstandings. Luckily I had some wonderful boys who were to death with me, “says Zidane, winking at the squad, his main livelihood and his main concern as a coach as well.

Finally, the Frenchman also throws a dart at the press, saying that he would have liked to receive more football questions. “Without trying to criticize you or give you lessons, I would have liked that the questions were not always directed towards controversy, that we would have talked more often about the ball and above all about the players,” says Zidane, who will not continue to be Real Madrid coach and to which the club is already looking for a substitute.
