Guayasense Valentina Vargas and Mario Galárraga from Pichincha were crowned champions of the 14-year-old category of the Grade 1 National Tournament (categories 12, 14 and 16 years old), which is played at the National Club of Guayaquil.
Valentina Vargas, number 1 of the ranking national of the category, defeated in the title dispute María Victoria Robles, No. 2 in the national classification, in two sets: 6-2, 6-1.
For his part, Mario Galárraga, No. 2 of the ranking of the Ecuadorian Tennis Federation, defeated Felipe Morales (No. 3) by a double 6-2.
Both Valentina Vargas and Mario Galárraga make up the national team that will travel to the South American Under-14 Championship that will take place in Asunción (Paraguay) and that will take place from June 21 to 27, a tournament that in turn is a qualifier for the World Championship of the category to be fulfilled in the Czech Republic.
In 14-year-old ladies’ doubles, the Guayaseans Valentina Vargas and Bárbara Olvera obtained the title after defeating María Victoria Robles, from Manabi, in the final, who doubles with Carolina Guerrero, from Guayaquil, 6-2 and 6-4.
In men’s doubles, Felipe Morales from Tungurah and Roberto Mucarsel from Pichincha defeated Martín Baquero and Mario Galárraga from Pichincha in the final 6-3, 6-0
About 200 tennis players from Azuay, Chimborazo, Guayas, Pichincha, Manabí, Tungurahua, El Oro, Esmeraldas, Imbabura, Los Ríos, Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas and Pastaza participated in the tournament. (D)
